Once again, boredom strikes me hard in the face. I find myself dozing off in every single lesson, including math. As every week passes and the workload only looks to increase, perhaps the best place to seek solace is in the virtual world. Yup, u get what I mean.

Four more levels to 3rd job in maple, but pangya and audition continue to remain idle. It's getting increasingly difficult not to slot in a couple of hours to solve this gaming fix - a clear sign of addiction. But what to do? Like i'd said earlier, upon reaching the level 70 milestone, it's time to force myself to study.

Question is, will I even take the effort? I doubt so. the day I look forward most to every week is, unsurprisingly, Sunday. Have already made up my mind that every sunday will be a regular appointment at PCBunk from morning till afternoon, starting from this coming one.

pretty ironic that gaming becomes my priority when my mid-yr results don't look convincing in any way.

well, didn't get to train for the full 8 hours on sat. already anticipated fullhouse at PCBunk in the afternoon, so went to VirtuaLan in Bugis and trained for like 3 hrs. went there after dinner, but the crowd doesn't seem to have thinned out much. in fact, more and more ppl were entering than leaving. put my name on the waiting list anyway, and it was more than 1 hour 20 mins before i could start training. tragic, but true. ytd afternoon also went PCBunk and waited for exactly 1 hour. slightly more efficient, but still a damn long wait.

so for all the publicity this internet cafe, located deep inside dhoby ghaut mrt station (NEL interchange) has gained, expect even more gamers, hardcore or casual, making their presence felt there.

breakdown of the games most played:
1) 90% -- MapleStory, with 3rd job players (lvl 70+++) dominant.
2) 4% -- AuditionSEA, the latest dance game offered by Asiasoft.
3) 3% -- Pangya
3) 2% -- DOTA
4) 0.5% -- Gunbound
5) 0.5% -- Others (like Mario Kart, etc.)

how u wanna interpret this information, whether u think it's reliable or not, it's all up to u.

Passed geog re-test. Fortunately. But there are many other issues on the table.

Academic wise, need to start work on the 1st draft of written report. deadline 11 august, which is like right after the national day celebrations. Who will be in the right mood to return to school, especially when it's a friday? But anyway. Many other assignments incoming, but wont touch them until the last minute. That's my "usual" practice.

One of the main aims is to reach level 70 (ie. 3rd job) for main Maple char (see screenshot below, 16 jul entry) before my birthday on 21 august. Currently level 64 going 65 very soon. Tmr going chiong from 3pm to 11 with 2x exp special coupon =)

Another aim is to score well at promos, which i know is not possible given the state i'm in now. But once i cross the level 70 mark, i'll force myself to study. Yup. Force. A few months of suffering is nothing compared to the agony of having to be retained for another year.

my results had nvr failed in disappointing me so far, and tat's pretty much the same story for geog. though managed to score a really really borderline pass (45%), but ain't satisfied at all. the essay component let me down big-time. 5/25. what more can i say? econs sure gone case. so the only real hope lies in GP. =/

and the workload is suddenly doubled today, all thanks to... (no prizes for guessing) yep, GP again.

To-do List: (as of 12/07)

1-GP group essay plan. 80% complete, left examples part haven do.
2-GP acjc prelim paper 2. 55%. some questions really make me vomit blood.
3-GP peer marking sheet. 0%.
4-GP ten most important events. 0%. tonite den go do task 3 and 4. still got cca later. haix.
5-Econs mindmap on production & costs. 75%.
6-Econs essay plan (Q2). 5%.
7-Maths tut 8, 9 selected qns. 0%. work on them during the weekend.
8-Physics tut on dynamics. 10%. similar to item 7.

couldn't get online during the past weekend, so apologies for not being able to publish my predictions of the World Cup final between Italy and France.

but no point releasing that now. the match is long over. and Italy is crowned champions after defeating the French 5-3 on penalties (1-1 after extra time). and that infamous head-butt by retiring Zinedine Zidane cast a pall on his final international cap. perhaps he was provoked really badly prior to this incident, but that does not serve as a valid enough excuse. he should have controlled himself better there. i mean, it was already 110 minutes into the game and everybody's exhausted more or less, so why act spoiler? makes little sense to me.

and tada! the World Cup is over not long after its arrival a month ago. time to get back to reality. speaking of that, i think my mid-year common test results will be really disappointing. they might even be worse than my most conservative aims. perhaps i was too optimistic. whatever. maths down (44%), physics down (41%). what's next?

econs looks terribly bleak. if i could get 30% good enough alr. geog looks promising for our class initially, but we might be in for a hard landing. our PD tutor, miss huang, has told us ytd during civics that most of us would be down for extra lessons. oh dear. i hope i can pass this.

so ironically, the remaining hope lies in none other than GP. though the elaboration in my essay wasn't that great, i believe my 4 points brought up should be strong and convincing enough to earn, say, at least 28/50? have to think this way for a simple reason. the situation now looks destined to be headed for FOUR failures out of five subjects, which is a massive tragedy. indeed, if only i spent less time on online gaming, things might hav turned out differently. but too late regretting it now. anyway, it's just the beginning. doing well in the end-of-yr promos will dispel any fear of getting retained.

and to top it off with what many ppl would probably comment upon seeing this entry: easier said than done.

Quick update on the World Cup:

-- Italy and France will be battling for the championship after the former eliminated hosts Germany with two goals deep into extra time, and the latter sent Portugal packing with a 33rd-minute penalty from Zidane. Well, at least the two "losers" have something to play for in the 3rd place play-off.

Semi-final results:
Italy 2-0 Germany (after extra time)
France 1-0 Portugal

Prediction of the winner coming up in one or two days' time. Just be abit more patient ^^

couldn't even catch a thing during the econs tutorial tdy. perhaps was too tired to concentrate. and worse, been finding it hard to communicate with some of my classmates. why things have turned out this way, i don't know.

our new PD tutor, miss huang, told me after class that the way i presented during civics lesson tdy, there will be problems for my OP exams. (i.e. oral presentation for Project Work on 6-10 nov) i fidgeted too much, she said. haiz. thanks for being so frank, that i know very well too. it has become something like a habit. wanting me to change is easier said than done. i will try to change but it has been a futile struggle so far.

there's a feeling within myself that some ppl will definitely dislike my straightforward, direct style. i've already caused quite abit of havoc during the first 3 m0nths, and i wouldn't want to repeat that. so i've been on the defensive ever since. one of my major weaknesses is speaking fluent english, and with several of my classmates from english-speaking families, friction is bound to surface.

now that i've mentioned english-speaking families, i'm gonna spend some time discussing my perceived stereotype of english-speaking ppl being more affluent and well-spoken compared to their mandarin-speaking counterparts. i'm not sure why such thoughts had developed ever since JC life began. maybe due to envy. or some other reason. it seems to me that the majority of english speakers are pretty well-off in relation to mandarin speakers, with many of them living in private housing. as a result i find myself on a totally different frequency when they're around. in secondary school i have my fair share of enemies, but at least heartlanders reign the school. but now, the environment has taken a massive change, with english being heard spoken more often among students. perhaps it's due to the fact that GP trains our minds to think in proper english. and indirectly, english speakers are more presentable in terms of behaviour. (so-called more well-groomed)

in my opinion, it's best to stick to what you feel most comfortable with. if you're a mandarin-speaker, continue to be one. no point following your friends' accents and stuff cos' it'll be really unnatural and trust me, you won't like that. even if that means fewer friends, so be it. at least i've my ava friends. they are much more approachable. like what's stated in the AJC student's handbook, "the aim of enrolling into junior college is to excel in the A levels to secure better prospects in the future." so doing well at the national exams is priority. true, friends are an important part of your life. but with friends comes distrust. betrayal. they might end up hurting you in the future. it's not that i don't wanna make friends. but the wariness about every single soul around me just refuses to go away. it makes me hard to trust anyone. that i'll rather be better off alone.

Sadded. Failed math CT. But didn't fail too badly. 31/70. At least my parents probably won't scream their heads off.

Den the two econs teachers looked exaggerated when pointing out the errors made by the J1 cohort in the CT. Kaoz. Ppl no confidence liao u still add insult to injury. But teachers are like that. They've high expectations of their students, so it's natural for them to sort of overreact.

High possibility of getting back geog and physics papers later as well, particularly geog. And I'm not optimistic either. Passing anyone of these 4 subjects above would be a bonus, although failing GP might not be so much of a foregone conclusion now.

Speaking of GP, I still haven't worked on a single assignment. 9 news articles, 3 essays (two for peer marking), and also the grp project and grp essay plan, the last assignment being given out today. Faint le. Really been too obsessed with gaming this holiday.

The end of the World Cup quarter finals also saw the beginning of the European Cup '06. Not joking. Germany vs Italy and Portugal vs France is what's in store for the semis.

Brazil was a flop against the Les Bleus. They wanted revenge for that humiliating 0-3 loss in the 1998 final, although their coach made it clear they are not bent for revenge. But perhaps the French is indeed one of the rare gems that are able to stall Brazil's charges completely. Note that Brazil managed SEVEN shots throughout this game, which only one of them was on target. Only one word to describe the samba men's performance: pathetic. And their winless streak against France continues (ironically, for all the accolades the Brazilians have received to date, it has been more than 50 years since Brazil managed to defeat France in major tournaments.)

England's loss to Portugal, on the other hand, was not surprising. Coach Eriksson's insistence on the 4-5-1 defensive formation will not reap rewards all the time, although this defence was able to ward off the Portugese attack for 120 minutes despite being one man down. (Wayne Rooney sent off after 62 minutes, that I refuse to comment on further) When it came to the penalty shoot-out, England's weaknesses were exposed thoroughly. Lampard missed. Gerrard missed too. And England were sent packing, 1-3 losers in the heart-stopping shoot out. What a tragedy in the history of English soccer.

Italy vs Ukraine was simply a one-sided affair in favour of the former.

Germany vs Argentina wasn't that interesting an affair either, apart from the brawl that occurred after the penalty shoot-out. Now, we can't plainly accuse the Argentinians of being sore losers. Even if it's one of their reserve players who started all these, why did the German players who converted their spot kicks taunt their opposition's fans? That was totally uncalled for. They (the German players) don't have the right to be so "zhuai" (act power) just because their country is host.

The big question remains: who will be the eventual winner? Watch out for my next entry to find out ^^

Same ranking, same course (Blue Lagoon), but what a massive difference in money (ie. pang).
Females more superior than males? Hmm.
A 100+ difference in pang doesn't warrant the word "massive". Apologies for the really poor comparison there.

The lower the control slot, the better? My female character's control is only 17 (equivalent to rookie level) but the pang value is a totally different story.
