In the space of a fortnight, the H1N1 situation here has sharply worsened. From just 27 cases till 13th June, the same statistic as of yesterday night stood at 454, a 17-fold increase. With school set to resume tomorrow, expect new cases to be coming in the hundreds everyday. One silver lining though, is that the virus has been relatively mild, none of the infected Singaporeans have lost their lives (hopefully this trend will continue).

27 H1N1 cases have been discovered in Singapore so far - 26 imported, and 1 locally transmitted. The World Health Organisation has recently raised the global flu alert level to Phase 6, an indication that a full-fledged pandemic is underway. Governments have been advised to gradually focus their efforts on mitigation and damage control, since prevention will never be effective in the globalised world we live in today. *dreads at the prospect of those Orange days returning* My laptop's gonna die soon, there're some problems with the hard disk that're causing the system to crash in the middle of some application. Loading times have increased significantly too. D: Looks like I won't be able to keep to my resolution of visiting lan shops just twice monthly. Was at bunk yesterday, the staff there told me that this coming Sunday, 14 June, will be the last day of operation for bunk, after which the current premises will be taken over by other groups of people. Quite saddened to hear of bunk's demise, especially since I was one of the pioneer gamers who were part of the first generation 'bunkers'. [remember the PangyaSEA event held there? I doubt many would..]
Regardless, there're many other good alternatives to bunk.
- Virtualand (AMK/Cityvibe/Bugis) $2 per hour for non-members regardless of peak or non-peak periods. Special packages are available for members at rates as low as $25 for 23 hours. Been to all three outlets before, the AMK branch has so far been the most conducive among the three. AuditionSEA frame rate: 60 fps. - IRC (Bt Timah/Parkmall/Peninsula Plaza) Flat rate $2 per hour for members and guests, $2.50 for non-members on Fridays to Sundays and public holidays. In addition, you need to pay a $10 deposit before starting the session. No package deals available to my knowledge. Only been to Bt Timah outlet, just 10 minutes' bus ride from my camp. AuditionSEA frame rate: 70-75 fps.
- CyberEra No package deals either, normal rate $2 per hour regardless of peak or off-peak. However, you may purchase 5 hours at $8 (translates to $1.60/hr), which is relatively affordable considering the superb performance of the comps here. AuditionSEA frame rate: ~100 fps.
- Ani-Play (Sunset Way) Another lan near my camp (15-20mins bus ride), nicely camouflaged at the second floor, just above the chain of restaurants that have been widely publicised about in the news. Though it might be small-scaled compared to the 100+ comps at Virtualand Bugis, the gaming experience there is still quite okay, just that I find the speakers a tad too soft for Audi. Package deals available, rates going as low as $16 for 14 hours of gameplay. AuditionSEA frame rate: Varies. Some comps are stuck with 60 but others could hit 75-80.

#edited;> Just realised, I have RT on 20th morning (unless it's cancelled, but I don't wish to place my hopes too high..), hence it isn't possible to stay overnight at the chalet on 19th. Oh wells, shall go straight after the remedial then. :X ------------------------------------- Finally a Main, after being stuck at Backup for quite a long time. Cleared in one attempt yesterday afternoon, 4.16pm, at Virtualand AMK as always. :D After work today, went to Bukit Panjang Plaza where I managed a rare opportunity to meet my Audi buddies, Edwina and Emmanuel. Chit-chatted for an hour in the library, before parting ways. Realised that Emmanuel actually lives nearby me, at Kovan Melody, so we decided to train back together. Bukit Panjang LRT (BP6) - Choa Chu Kang (NS4) - Bishan (NS17/CC13) - Serangoon (CC15/NE12) - Kovan (NE13) Long journey indeed, considering that I could actually cutshort the journey by so much, if alighting at AMK (NS16) as I've normally would. But it was the evening peak hour, and the crowds jostling for the buses stopping near the station would be massive, hence went over to Kovan anyway. The entire ride shaved $2.10 off my ez-link. Pretty costly. -.-" Reached home around 7.45pm. My aunt has successfully booked one of the bungalows along Pasir Ris Close, from 19-22 June. Sadly, I've overnight duty on the 21st, so most probably will be joining on 19th night, and staying through till the following night before returning home.
Still, at least that's better than not being able to attend at all. (:

In the space of one week, since the first H1N1 influenza case had been discovered in Singapore on May 27, the figure has swelled to 11. Meanwhile, the Government has been doing a wonderful job with respect to contact tracing, ensuring no close contacts of those infected, from family members to air passengers seated three rows front and back on the same flight as the infected, had been left out. This no-nonsense approach adopted, to minimise the collateral damage arising from the outbreak, should help to ease citizens' minds a little. --------------------------------------------------- Updates over the past week. - 30 May: Massive jam on Dunearn Road, 1100-1130hrs. The workers should have known better. I was on service 74, returning home after remedial training. About two stops after King Albert Park, traffic came to a total standstill. Initally, I'd thought there must have been a serious accident ahead. Turned out that wasn't the case. Maybe the road works were very urgent, hence had to be rushed on a weekend. BUT, the management should take timing of works into consideration as well. Sealing off two out of the three lanes on a city-bound trunk road that is Dunearn Rd, on late Saturday morning, wouldn't that cause great inconvenience to many?
No thanks to the works, I reached home more than 30mins late. Understandably tired, but I still had another appointment, to attend the IPP Financial Quotient game in town area. Relatively enjoyable, learnt quite a fair bit about managing investments and liabilities better. - 31 May: Rotted, stoned, whatever. For once, I decided to stay home and Maple instead, from 8am-10pm. Was helping to train my cousin's ice/lightning to 3rd job. - 2 June: 16% to Main. At the beginning of this month, I'd made a resolution to cut down visiting LAN shops to just twice a month, so this is one of the two times already. Met my Audi friend, Snow, at Redhill, after which we went to Vivo, Bugis, and then Illuma (spelling?) to window shop. Parted ways around 7pm, as she was going for her friends' chalet at Costa Sands in Downtown East. Since there was still abit of time, I went to amk Virtualand after dinner to train Audi for awhile. My 8key isn't good in the first place, and now even my 4key's deproving. Can't even hit 135bpm CFM consistently. ._. Fortuantely, was able to chain alot for certain songs, perf x12 for Whisung She's Beautiful and x9 for Audition Lie and that helped to lift my mood, but only just.. - Today: Half-day off. Nothing out of the ordinary, just that I coincidentally met my Prudential agent, Verlyn, at Bedok Interchange while going to the library to meet my friend.
