Finally, the inevitable has arrived. The first H1N1 influenza case has been confirmed in Singapore at about 9am this morning, a SMU student who had just returned from some exchange programme in New York. (Refer to Channel Newsasia for details) Didn't come as a nasty surprise though, as the Government was already bracing for fresh cases imported from overseas. Well, I guess we should just carry on with the daily routine that we've been following all along, but with abit more of hygiene consciousness. For instance, not leaving used tissue paper on the plate/bowl of food you've just consumed, something that i've been guilty of doing many times over for the sake of convenience..

The updates coming in daily with relation to the Influenza A outbreak, they're only bringing more bad news for Singapore and the world. Currently, the WHO is hesitating to declare the outbreak as a full-fledged pandemic (Phase 6), which is understandable due to the relatively low mortality rate (85 out of 11000+), and the possible consequences that might follow, such as tighter travel restrictions that might further burden the already ailing global economy. For now, let's continue to keep our fingers crossed, that the MOH would not raise the local flu alert level back to Orange.

So Barcelona did get through on away goals, final score 1-1 on aggregate. Probably not the result that United fans hoped for...

Quite a handful of people around myself are beginning to fall sick recently. Probably it's a result of the bad weather - cold and rainy in the early morning, but in the afternoon after 12pm, it's back to the hot oven environment in excess of 33 degrees Celsius once more. In view of the H1N1 influenza outbreak that, according to the most recent reports, have claimed a victim locally in the United States, and officially spread to South Korea, I hope everybody will take good care of themselves. Do NOT be overly paranoid (seriously, panicking won't do the situation any good). But do make it a habit to follow good hygiene practices, like washing your hands with soap before every meal, covering your mouth when coughing, etc. Be socially responsible - if you're feeling unwell, especially when you've caught a cold or fever, visit the nearest clinic ASAP and don't delay. Avoid crowded places. That's the end of Chris's safety bulletin for the H1N1 influenza. ---------------------------------------------------------- Moving on, many die-hard soccer fanatics will be having their eyes glued to tonight's Champions League semi-final second leg, between Chelsea and Barcelona at Stamford Bridge. What's my take on the outcome of this epic clash of the giants? Well, both teams are likely to play an attacking game this time, which hopefully will generate more goals unlike the dull goalless draw in the first leg. Barca's offensive ability is beyond doubt - 100 goals in 34 La Liga matches sums it all up. However, the defensive unit is highly vulnerable prior to the big game, with Carles Puyol suspended and Rafael Marquez injured. As for the Blues, the return of Ashley Cole from suspension is a major boost to their defence, which had seemed horribly shaky at times, such as in the 4-4 home draw against Liverpool during the quarter-final stage. Pinpoint delivery of set-pieces, one of Chelsea's major strengths, will be critical if they are to score an early goal and disrupt Barca's momentum. Prediction: Chelsea 2-2 Barcelona, Barcelona to go through on away goals.
