as promised, here's my update on yesterday's service-learning trip.

well, the children there seem kind of reserved towards strangers.
but that's understandable.
my classmates joined the other children in playing board games, online games etc.
but i wasn't interested and just went straight into tutoring a pri 4 boy on the three states of matter.

maybe some rapport-bonding stuff would have helped.
but i just didn't think of doing so at that time.
i just thought that since he needed help in schoolwork, i'll volunteer my service.
nothing wrong there, isn't it?

but later, i found out that my approach was too fast, too direct.
even i realised it.
when i explained the concepts, i kept using difficult words like "confined" and "compressed" among others, that a pri 4 student might have problems understanding.

yup. basically, my problem is that i have set the standards too high.
if my student was one who is demanding, he/she might lament stuffs like:

this is NOT effective teaching.
you aren't helping me understand that way.

point taken.
i will definitely try to change and improve by next session.
but don't bet on it.
i guess i ain't fit to be a tuition teacher in the first place.

moving on to today's happenings.

math test was...
well, not as massive a disaster as the GP test last thurs.
but still, i left a six-mark question totally blank due to lack of time.
(50 minutes for four tough questions... mission impossible?)

PE lesson today is just running, running and more running.
cos cross-country is coming this fri. need to train up =(
had to run 10 rounds, of which the last 6 rounds were timed.
guess how badly i did?
16 minutes.TWO minutes off the passing mark.
the only consolation perhaps is that i didn't stop throughout.

geog lecture was business as usual.
then mass civics.
members of HPB gave a talk on sexually transmitted infections and how to prevent them.
the images were gross.
you don't want to get infected. seriously.
the consequences will be too much for you to bear.
even blood donors are at risk of contracting HIV, if they're not careful.

finally, GP lesson.
got timed practice on application question.
and i couldn't finish.
poor time management.
could only blame myself.

the rest of this week, there little to look forward to.
except for cross-country run at bishan park 1 on fri.
and i'll probably be meeting dar the day after.

(p.s. don't worry about me, i know what's right and what's not.)

those memories. 16:12
