27 H1N1 cases have been discovered in Singapore so far - 26 imported, and 1 locally transmitted. The World Health Organisation has recently raised the global flu alert level to Phase 6, an indication that a full-fledged pandemic is underway. Governments have been advised to gradually focus their efforts on mitigation and damage control, since prevention will never be effective in the globalised world we live in today. *dreads at the prospect of those Orange days returning* My laptop's gonna die soon, there're some problems with the hard disk that're causing the system to crash in the middle of some application. Loading times have increased significantly too. D: Looks like I won't be able to keep to my resolution of visiting lan shops just twice monthly. Was at bunk yesterday, the staff there told me that this coming Sunday, 14 June, will be the last day of operation for bunk, after which the current premises will be taken over by other groups of people. Quite saddened to hear of bunk's demise, especially since I was one of the pioneer gamers who were part of the first generation 'bunkers'. [remember the PangyaSEA event held there? I doubt many would..]
Regardless, there're many other good alternatives to bunk.
- Virtualand (AMK/Cityvibe/Bugis) $2 per hour for non-members regardless of peak or non-peak periods. Special packages are available for members at rates as low as $25 for 23 hours. Been to all three outlets before, the AMK branch has so far been the most conducive among the three. AuditionSEA frame rate: 60 fps. - IRC (Bt Timah/Parkmall/Peninsula Plaza) Flat rate $2 per hour for members and guests, $2.50 for non-members on Fridays to Sundays and public holidays. In addition, you need to pay a $10 deposit before starting the session. No package deals available to my knowledge. Only been to Bt Timah outlet, just 10 minutes' bus ride from my camp. AuditionSEA frame rate: 70-75 fps.
- CyberEra No package deals either, normal rate $2 per hour regardless of peak or off-peak. However, you may purchase 5 hours at $8 (translates to $1.60/hr), which is relatively affordable considering the superb performance of the comps here. AuditionSEA frame rate: ~100 fps.
- Ani-Play (Sunset Way) Another lan near my camp (15-20mins bus ride), nicely camouflaged at the second floor, just above the chain of restaurants that have been widely publicised about in the news. Though it might be small-scaled compared to the 100+ comps at Virtualand Bugis, the gaming experience there is still quite okay, just that I find the speakers a tad too soft for Audi. Package deals available, rates going as low as $16 for 14 hours of gameplay. AuditionSEA frame rate: Varies. Some comps are stuck with 60 but others could hit 75-80.
